Words carry meaning, and can cause harm — even if unintentional. I believe that my commitment to creating inclusive spaces is defined by my actions, not my beliefs. I am committed to ensuring the language I use helps people feel safer and more included in the spaces I occupy — in and outside of my work. I will be more thoughtful to use inclusive language and terms in my everyday conversations, on my website, forms, contracts, and on all social media for both employees and clients. I will focus on putting people first, not their characteristics. I will honor and normalize the use of people’s pronouns (She/Her, He/Him, They/Them, Ze/Hir, Ey/Em, Other). I will do this by asking, not assuming. I will continue to ask for feedback, to seek out learning opportunities, and surround myself with people who bring different perspectives than my own.
WITH RESOURCES
I’ll use my resources to find ways, both small and large, to demonstrate my support of underserved individuals, to help move equality forward and prevent the spread of hate. I will volunteer my time and donate my money to organizations that uplift, empower, and better the lives of those who have been ignored, misunderstood, mistreated, and othered by society. I will also not spend my money at known establishments or organizations who support systems of hate, exclusion, and violence against anyone because of their identity. I will use my voting power to show support to the candidates who are working to better the lives of those who have been ignored, misunderstood, mistreated, and othered by society.
WITH EDUCATION
I will attend webinars, workshops, talks, and trainings on diversity and inclusion. I am committed to always learning and growing as an ally.
